Did you know that the deadline for applications for Llano mayor is February 27th?

The deadline for applications for Llano mayor is February 27th. Llano needs some new leadership.

There seems to be two "parties" or factions in Llano politics. They are self-categorized as "Growth" and "No-growth."

The growth party wants us to have manufacturing, HEB, and Wal-Mart, along with increased population, businesses, and tax revenue. They want to be Fredericksburg. Led by Mayor Virdell, they have failed.

The no-growth party wants us to stay the same with no government spending, no HEB, and no Wal-Mart. They want to be “Llano, the way Texas used to be.” Led by Mayor Reagor, they have failed.

What they both have in common is wasteful spending, bad management, lawlessness, lies, and ignoring citizens.  And Llano is the worse for it.

We have high taxes and utility rates. We have a golf course perpetually losing money, useless fountains, an unneeded "new" police station, secret deals, and huge debt - none of which benefits citizens. We also have poor business plans that require more spending than anticipated like sewer plants, dam gates, and utility meters.

Neither faction knows what growth actually is, how to get it, or if citizens really want it. Neither respects citizens or property rights – except for their friends. Both think they know what is best for us. Neither knows the real mission of city government.

We have a city government that doesn’t listen to citizens, doesn’t allow citizens to discuss issues or purchases, and makes decisions in secret. We have a mayor that votes first and can usurp the votes of elected representatives. There is very little real business experience or management skill.

We need a third “party” in Llano. One that knows the proper role of city government. One that respects citizens and property rights. One that understands that growth comes from a properly run city government and not from fountains in the river. One that knows how to interview, appraise, and hire a competent and honest city manager. One that knows where tax and utility revenue actually comes from.

Here is a mayoral platform for that third party that might even get votes from the other parties:

  • Integrity

  • Hire a new city manager

  • Llano Citizens’ Bill of Rights

  • Eliminate waste

  • Reduce taxes and utility rates (this can be done)

  • Implement a proper employee work environment and pay

  • Create proper business plans for projects
